Portway Lifestyle Centre – Your chance to find out more

Find out more about Sandwell's proposed £18m leisure centre at a series of mini-roadshows next month.

Portway Lifestyle Centre is a health, well being and leisure centre due to open in Oldbury in 2013. It will be a centre of excellence with a particular focus on disabled people.


Sandwell Council, Sandwell Leisure trust, Sandwell Primary Care Trust and Tividale Family Practice are organising question and answer sessions about the project.

The dates, times and venues are:


  • 1) One Stop Shop, Council House, Oldbury, Mon, 5 Sept 10am-4pm
  • 2) Oldbury Leisure Centre, Weds, 7 Sept, 5.30pm-8pm
  • 3) St. James Church Hall, Lion Farm estate, Oldbury, Tuesday, 13 Sept, 1pm-4pm
  • 4) Oldbury Library, Jack Judge House, Weds 14 Sept, 10-4pm,
  • 5) Tividale family Practice, Thurs, 22 Sept, 1pm-3pm


Facilities at the lifestyle centre will include:


  • Four court sports hall
  • Hydrotherapy pool
  • Café
  • Sensory garden
  • Climbing wall
  • Dance studio and fitness suite
  • Full-size artificial grass pitch for senior, junior and 5-a-side football.
  • GP surgery


Sandwell Council's cabinet member for leisure services Councillor Linda Horton said: "We know the lifestyle centre's success depends on the support of the community and we want to give people as many opportunities as possible to ask any questions they may have, or to join the user group advising us on the design and layout of the centre."
