Council Tax and Benefits SMS service for deaf and partially deaf customers

Sandwell Council’s Revenues and Benefits service who deal with collecting Council Tax and paying out Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are trialling a new SMS number since 5 March, for deaf and partially deaf customers to contact them by text message.

Texting will not be suitable for sending confidential or lengthy information about people’s benefit claims or Council Tax accounts.  However, customers can use the number to let Revenues and Benefits know that they have a query or problem. Customers can also use the service to arrange appointments to come and see them, using a British Sign Language interpreter. The number is 07896 232918.
