Olympic Flame arrives in Britain today

coe 1915645bThe Olympic flame is due to arrive in the UK on Friday evening, ready for the start of the London 2012 torch relay. Footballer David Beckham, Princess Anne and Lord Coe, chairman of Games organisers Locog, are flying from Athens, Greece with the flame. Flight BA2012, a gold-colour plane named Firefly, lands just before 19:30BST at Cornish airbase RNAS Culdrose, for a welcoming ceremony.

The 8,000 mile, 70-day torch relay around the UK begins on Saturday, and aims to pass within 1hour of 95% of people in the UK on its journey to London 2012.

The flame is due to pass through Oldbury, West Bromwich and Smethwick, on it's way to Birmingham on Saturday 30th June.

A number of Sandwell people are involved in the actual Games; and thousands of others will be celebrating the event.
