Disability Living Allowance Reform - next stage

As you will probably be aware the government is replacing Disability Living Allowance, (DLA) with a new benefit, the Personal Independence Payment, (PIP). The Department of Work and Pensions have recently drafted criteria on eligibility for the PIP which will help determine who receives it. The PIP is due to replace DLA in April 2013.

The government would like comments on the proposed criteria. As a disabled people’s organisation we would like to invite you to a meeting to find out about and air your views on the proposed criteria for PIP. Ideal for All will be hosting four consultation sessions, these will take place on Friday 20th May and Monday 23rd May. There will be two sessions on each day: 10 am till 12pm and 1pm till 3pm. The venue for all sessions will be at the Independent Living Centre, Oldbury Road, Smethwick B66 1JE.

To reserve your place please select a date and time which will be convenient for you to attend and call Simon or Shaireen on 0121 558 5555 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. A factsheet on the proposed changes can be found on the Disability Alliance website at http://www.disabilityalliance.org/f60.htm which gives an outline of the proposed criteria. However, it is important to be aware that they are draft criteria, the points-scoring system isn’t finalised, and who receives the PIP and at what rate is undecided.
