Drop-in Duty Service

This service provides access to a range of equipment to improve and maintain independence.

Who can use the service?

The service is available to Sandwell residents. Assessments are open to people of any age and ability. The individual requiring the equipment must be present for the assessment.

When is the service available?

This is a drop-in service so appointments are not necessary. It is available from Monday to Friday, between 10am and 11.45am. Due to the nature of the service if you arrive after 11.45am, or if there are a lot of people waiting when you arrive, it is possible that you will be asked to return on another day. The duty officer is unable to see people after 12pm.

What happens when you visit?

Upon arrival people are be asked to sign in at reception and fill out a form containing some personal details. There may then be a short wait before you see a duty officer. A short assessment allows you to explain any difficulties you are experiencing. The duty officer will then be able to establish possible solutions.

Whilst the solution may be the provision of equipment, it is often also the provision of impartial advice, support and information, or referral to another agency. If equipment is deemed a suitable solution an assessment will be provided, and demonstration and instruction given to help you.

Can I have a home visit?

This service does not offer home visits. If a home visit is required, the appropriate department of Adult Services and Health should be contacted. Sandwell Assist provide this service.
