Independent Living

Social groups and peer support to connect with others and manage your disability

Ideal for All facilitates several self-help groups to promote and support the independence of disabled people living in Sandwell. These groups are an opportunity to have some social time with others in a similar situation to yourself and to access information on specialist local services relevant to health issues faced by you or someone you care for.

We also bring people together at regular coffee mornings, accessible exercise classes and social activities, many of which are free to attend. For young people, there’s Altogether Different, a youth group that meets weekly.

You can also take a look at what we offer in our Independent Living infographic.

To attend any of our groups or social activities, contact The Engagement Team on 0121 558 5555. We look forward to seeing you.

Peer Support Groups

Cancer support group - For people and their families who have been affected by cancer. Come along for a cuppa and a chat, share your experiences, and meet new people.

Deaf and hard of hearing social group - The group meets monthly and is a great source of support for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Fibromyalgia/Arthritis Support Group - Come along and learn more about the condition. Meet people, share experiences and have your say about treatments and how to manage pain and fatigue.

MS Support & Exercise Groups - We run two groups for people affected by MS. A support group and an exercise group, which is in partnership with the Black Country branch of the MS Society. Come along and meet like-minded people. Carers and health and social care professionals are also welcome.

All Together Different Youth Group - All young people from the age of 14 upwards not in education, employment or training are welcome to join Ideal for All’s youth group. This group’s aim is to encourage young people to gain as much independence as possible and is an avenue for peer support through leisure and educational activities. Visit Facebook Page

Gardening Group - This group runs on a monthly basis to share ideas, tips and experiences with each other. The group will meet at Malthouse Gardens and Salop Drive Market Garden on the last Monday of each month.

Direct Payments Support Group - The opportunity to meet other direct payment recipients and discuss your experiences of managing a direct payment whether that be about employing a personal assistant or using a payroll company.

Social Events Group - We organise social activities throughout the year. These include day trips, summer events, Christmas meals and other outings.

Exercise & Wellbeing Group

In partnership with Portway Lifestyle Centre, gentle exercise is ideal to improve your health, lift your mood and remain independent. Sessions include low impact exercises for strength, flexibility, and balance. These exercises are easy and suitable for all and can be done seated. Come and join us, have fun and get fit.

Coffee Mornings

We run coffee mornings every week for anyone who would like to catch up with old friends and make new ones. These take place at the Art Museum in Wednesbury (Tuesdays), West Bromwich Library (Wednesdays), Oldbury Library (Wednesdays) and Cradley Heath Community Centre (Fridays). A friendly atmosphere where you will be welcomed with tea/coffee, biscuits and a smile. Some groups have activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, guest speakers and other things you would like to do. Come with a friend if you prefer.
